Her name is familiar to local audiences because of her roles on stage at Greenwood Community Theatre and Abbeville Opera House. She has an impressive theatre background, acting in and directing dozens of productions around the country. She teaches several courses such as public speaking, oral interpretation, voice and diction, and the fundamentals of acting. Sacay-Bagwell joined Lander’s Department of Mass Communication and Theatre in 1991 after earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in acting from Brooklyn College and Ohio State University.
When she is not teaching or involved in a theatre production, she performs off stage, behind a microphone as a voice-over artist, narrating audio books. I learned a lot about Helen Keller. After more than 30 years as a stage actress and director, Lander University Professor of Theatre Monique Sacay-Bagwell has shifted her talents to a new pursuit. Her experiences as a person who overcame great adversity to have a very full and remarkable life are beautiful and amazing, but her views on education and experiences as an avid lifelong learner are even more inspiring. Remarkable and beautiful One of the best books I've ever read. Her humble nature resonates as she gives credit to her teacher, Anne Sullivan, and all of the others who accompanied her on her amazing journey through life. Her descriptions of her experiences are vivid and animated. This book hits the core of a person, "it touches your spirit." An eloquent tribute to her teacher Despite being deaf and blind, Helen Keller composed a beautiful narrative of her life from birth until her college years. For someone such as Helen Keller, who lived most of her life without the ability to hear or see, who accomplished the great things she accomplished, There's no reason why people today should make any "excuses" on why they cannot find ways (or better ways) to improve themselves, and their life styles. Beautiful! "Simply Inspiring" To anyone who has all 5 senses and has ever made an excuse about what they cannot improve their lives in some positive way "NEEDS" to read this book.

Any additional comments? The prose is wonderful and artfully performed, however the audio cuts out repeatedly and does not have Helen's letters written between 1877-1901 which comprise 100 plus pages of the published book. Those looking for an uplifting listening experience will find it here. Her passion for literature rings clearly in the narrator's blissful tone when addressing this subject. In a refreshingly modest manner, Bresnahan tells of Keller's remarkable academic achievements and her indebtedness to friends and mentors. Like a sigh of relief, the narrator recounts Keller's joy when her instructor, Anne Sullivan, breaks through the communication barrier. As the program opens, the listener can hear the frustration and sadness in Bresnahan's voice as Keller struggles to express herself to those outside her dark, silent world. Her courageous spirit her greatness never becomes out of date. Editorial Reviews: This program reveals the timelessness of Keller's autobiography.

When it was first published in 1902, her story gained the attention of some of the most famous people of her day and it was later popularized by the stage play and movie The Miracle Worker. In her unforgettable autobiography, Helen shares her struggle with, and ultimate triumph over, her disability.
It wasn't until she was 6, and a teacher, Miss Sullivan, entered her life, that she was able to communicate with her family.
